Dong Nai
ranked 3rd in the Provincial Greening Index
Accordingly, in
the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI), Dong Nai is outside the top 30
high-ranking provinces/cities. Meanwhile, in the Provincial Green Index (PGI),
Dong Nai ranks 3rd in the country right after Quang Ninh and Da Nang. The next
localities in the top 5 are Hung Yen and Ho Chi Minh City.
For Dong Nai,
the high ranking on the PGI index means that the province is pursuing a green
development strategy, prioritizing selective investment attraction. Dong Nai is
a pioneer in the project to reduce carbon emissions in the province by 2030,
with the vision to 2050 in order to realize Net Zero according to the
Government's commitment at COP26 and COP28. Currently, the People's Committee
has issued Decision No. 385/QD-UBND of the province dated February 19, 2024
approving the project to reduce carbon emissions until 2030, with the vision to
2050 in Dong Nai province.
The Provincial
Green Index (PGI), initiated in 2022, is a set of indicators to evaluate and
rank how environmentally friendly a locality is, based on its business
practices such as the level of application of environmentally friendly
technology of local businesses, the level of management and environmental
behavior of businesses, the level of interest and willingness to invest in
environmental issues of local authorities, and other significant environmental
issues. The goal of the green index is to promote provinces and cities in
Vietnam to pay more attention to economic development associated with
environmental protection, providing timely information to support provincial
and city governments in policy planning, promoting the building of an
environmentally friendly business ecosystem, contributing to attracting environment-minded
investors, and “green” and quality projects to Vietnam.
The Provincial
Green Index is evaluated and ranked based on four component indexes: (1) mitigating
environmental pollution and negative impacts of climate change; (2) ensuring
compliance with minimum environmental standards; (3) the role of provincial
governments in promoting green practices; (4) policies and services to support
businesses in environmental protection.
