The inspection delegation took a photo beside
the model.
According to the project manager's report,
the project is currently on schedule, including investigating the current
status of protective forests in the research area; determining the density of
cocoa planting under the canopy of protective forests with 3 experiments, and
simultaneously planting, caring for and protecting the experiments in 3 levels
of canopy coverage; evaluating the growth and development of cocoa trees in
each specific model.
Field inspection of cocoa planting models at
Tan Phu Protective Forest Management Board shows that cocoa trees planted under
protective forest canopy in experimental models grow quite well, suitable for
local soil conditions. In particular, under forest canopy with >40% level canopy
cover the survival rate of trees reaches an average of over 96%. Particularly
for models planted from July 2021, cocoa trees have so far borne fruit, with a
fairly high fruit set rate.
According to the responsible unit, the
research objective of the topic is to determine the appropriate protective
forest status for cocoa planting; determine technical measures for planting and
nurturing cocoa to ensure an increase of about 10% of income compared to
planting agricultural crops under protective forest canopy; build an
experimental model of technical measures for cocoa planting under protective
forest canopy in Dong Nai; and develop technical guidelines for growing cocoa
under protective forest canopy.
