​Science and Technology Briefing Conference for the Southeast Region 2023: Promoting Science, Technology and Innovation Activities Update: 24-11-2023
On November 17, the Ministry of Science and Technology (M&T) coordinated with the People's Committee of Binh Duong province to organize the 16th Conference on Science and Technology of the Southeast region in 2023 in Binh Duong province. The conference was attended by the Deputy Minister of Science & Technology Le Xuan Dinh; leaders of Binh Duong province; leaders of Departments of Science and Technology of provinces and cities in the region, including: Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Binh Phuoc, Binh Thuan and Tay Ninh.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, Le Xuan Dinh, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, noted that the 16th Science and Technology Briefing Conference for the Southeast region in 2023 is organized to implement the Action Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology to implement Resolution No. 154/ NQ-CP of the Government on the direction of socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security in the Southeast region until 2030, with a vision to 2045; Directive of the Prime Minister on promoting science, technology and innovation activities in the Southeast region, including Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City plays a leading role. This is also an opportunity to summarize and evaluate the results of science, technology and innovation activities of the provinces in the region during the 2019-2023 period.

At the conference, leaders of the Departments of Science and Technology in the region discussed, proposed solutions to promote science, technology and innovation activities to help the region's socio-economic development in the coming time. These recommendations and proposals have been answered and collected by organzations under the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Concluding the conference, Le Xuan Dinh, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology acknowledged and appreciated the efforts, initiative and creativity of localities in managing science and technology activities and innovation, achieving many important results recently. Regarding local recommendations and proposals sent to the Ministry of Science and Technology and a number of related ministries and organizations, Le Xuan Dinh requested the heads of units under the Ministry of Science and Technology, based on their assigned functions and tasks, to take the lead, actively research, continue to exchange and guide localities to remove difficulties and obstacles; advise and propose to ministry leaders to consider and decide on issues within the Ministry's authority.

Leaders of the Ministry of Science and Technology also suggested that in the coming time, provinces and cities in the Southeast region should see science and technology and innovation, digital economy, green economy, and circular economy a focus, supporting rapid, sustainable development, creating a breakthrough in the local economy towards modernity; leading in the fields of digital transformation, high technology, clean technology, building and developing key products, products with local and regional strengths according to the product/value chain; increase investment and effectively use investment resources for S&T and innovation; develop human resources for S&T and innovation and so on.

At the conference, the signing ceremony of cooperation agreement between the Departments of Science and Technology in the Southeast region in linking and sharing data and information on technology trading platforms, and the ceremony of handing over the regional briefing conference location in 2025 to the Department of Science and Technology of Binh Phuoc province were held.

The Southeast is the most important economic region of the country, and is also the economic "gateway" and bridge of Vietnam to the world. In 2022, the gross regional product (GRDP) of the Southeast region accounted for about 31% of the country; exports contribute about 35% and budget revenue about 38%. Provinces and cities in the region are increasingly dynamic, clearly demonstrating the trend of creating mechanisms and policies to support businesses in technological innovation, identifying businesses as central subjects of scientific and technological activities and innovation, therefore, creating a breakthrough in labor productivity and product quality, bringing more success to businesses, contributing to the general socio-economic development of the region and the whole country.
